ADA Compliance: Web Accessibility for Parks an Recreation’s online places (website, software, etc..)

Brian Scott, Account Executive, CivicPlus
Don Torrez, Sr. Partner Manager, CivicPlus

More than 25% of Americans have some form of disability.  Governments are being sued, fined, and exposed for being inaccessible. But what are the laws? How do I know if my recreation management software or website is accessible? How can I ensure people with disabilities can use my online spaces? In this session, we will unpack what web accessibility means for community services / parks and recreation departments in local government, what the rules are, and how you can ensure that you are not only compliant, but that you have an accessible software and/or website that works for everyone, regardless of ability.

Learning Objectives

  • Learn about trends and current events with web accessibility including legal mandates and policies (Federal and DOJ Requirements).
  • Discuss success stories and best practices of current FRPA members and partnered clients that have utilized online tools to ensure web accessibility and how those tools have provided equity and inclusiveness to citizens with visual impairments.
  • Receive Recommendations to make your digital spaces are accessible including both free online tools and software available as well as a web accessibility Policy Checklist.

All FRPA Virtual Education Sessions are live and encourage you to stay engaged so that discussion can take place during and after the presentation. Each session has been scheduled for the time of the presentation but please keep in mind that we will have around seven to ten minutes of introductory announcements and possibly words from our sponsor during the session. These may cause the session to run over the allotted time by 10-15 minutes.
Please make sure your first and last name appear as your profile name so that the moderator will know to let you into the meeting. If are not able to make this change, it is your responsibility to inform FRPA what device name you will be signing in under.
